The materials at the bottom of a cage, be it wood chips or newspapers.
Similar to substrate, bedding is found at the bottom of the animal's enclosure. The difference is that bedding is referring to dry materials used in cages housing mammals.
Although some of the same materials that are used as in cages might be used in terrariums, that material is referred to as substrate.
