Referring to any type of badger hound / "wiener dog" / teckel of any hair length and body size.
Bred to hunt badgers, the dachshund has a long body and short legs with paws designed for digging in tunnels. The dachshund (or teckel) typically has one of three coats: short-hair, long-hair or wire-hair (curly). There are two officially recognized sizes, miniature and standard, though many owners refer to an in-between size as a "tweenie". Nicknamed the "wiener dog" due to their resemblance to a wienerwurst (a frankfurter / hot dog).
